Make it a practice to check your tires often for cuts, slashes, punctures, or even nails that could be damaging them. While you're there, check for uneven wear on the tire tread. This could be parts that wear out quickly or slowly, or that are unusually smooth. If the tread on your tires is worn down more than a quarter of an inch, you should get new ones.
