The Benz Patent Motorwagen was a huge hit by all accounts, and it helped Benz & Cie grow. By the end of the 19th century, Karl and Bertha's firm had grown so much that it had 430 employees, making it the largest car company in the world. Production was going rapidly, and in 1899 alone, Benz & Cie made an amazing 572 units.
