Used Cars That Mechanics Say Aren’t Worth the Money

26. Smart Fortwo - $9,148 to $18,876

The Fortwo is a popular car made by Smart, a division of Daimler AG. It has sold millions. Its main problems were safety concerns because it was a two-passenger city automobile. The IIHS did a number of crash tests and gave the car a "Poor" rating because there was a high probability that occupants would bang their heads on the steering wheel in a crash. It is also very light and can flip and spin out of control if it is bumped.

Even though it's not safe, the car is nonetheless a popular choice for a little, charming city car. Even though mechanics tell them to, drivers still go out and do extra things to be safe instead of obtaining a safer car.

25. Subaru BRAT - $10,000 to $14,999

The "BRAT" stands for "Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter," which is a quirky little acronym. This weird car, which is a mix between a sedan and a pickup truck, was made from 1978 until 1994. In addition to its strange design and look, it was also much weaker than previous versions, with only 73HP. It was able to stay around for so long because it kept changing in order to attract clients. But these changes were for nothing, and after North America stopped importing in 1987, the rest of the world would do the same in the years that followed.
